Recorded in the Crescent City and expertly produced by that city's famed Allen Toussaint, 'New Orleans Heat' captures Albert King in typical high-flying form and is widely regarded as being one of his finest recordings. For these 1979 sessions Allen Toussaint teamed King with the cream of the city's music talent, including famed guitarist Leo Nocentelli and his fellow Meter man George Porter on bass. The album is a mixture of long-established Albert King favourites such as 'Born Under A Bad Sign', perhaps best known from its cover by Cream, as well as several songs expressly written for the sessions by Toussaint and Nocentelli amongst others. A single culled from the album at the time, the Thirties evergreen 'The Very Thought Of You', gave King an R&B hit. This superb album matches Albert King with the magic of the most musical city in America's South in a programme which more than lives up to its title of 'New Orleans Heat'. |
