This is the only Barbara Pittman collection available - its re-issue at a time when interest in Elvis Presley and the Sun sound is enjoying a revival will be welcomed by both old and new fans of rock 'n' roll. The female sex is not heavily represented in the field of Rock 'n' Roll and one of its finest unsung exponents is Barbara Pittman. She was one of the few women who recorded for Sun Records and was indeed the only one to have a contract with the label. An acquaintance of Elvis Presley, who went to school with her and helped her get established. She also recorded song demos for him. Husky-voiced and no cooing dove, Barbara had a tough, aggressive vocal style that was unfortunately never fully exploited by Sam Phillips, who could never quite come to terms with her raunchy approach to her music. The recordings she made for the label during a four-year period beginning in 1956 well and truly established her place in the annals of Rock 'n' Roll. These twenty-seven tracks represent every recording she made at Sun and includes several demos and alternate takes. Includes her rockabilly classic, 'I Need A Man', the fiercely-rocking 'Everlasting Love', 'Cold, Cold, Heart' (which she considered her best record) and 'Eleventh Commandment', considered blasphemous and banned by many radio stations. This is the only Barbara Pittman collection available - its re-issue at a time when interest in Elvis Presley and the Sun sound is enjoying a revival will be welcomed by both old and new fans of rock 'n' roll.
