Ever since his arrival on the jazz scene in the early sixties, pianist Chick Corea has made an enormous impact, playing with the likes of Miles Davis ('Bitches Brew') and putting jazz-fusion on the musical map with his hugely successful group Return To Forever. He is now acclaimed as one of jazz's true superstars, in company with fellow keyboard players and Miles Davis sidemen Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett. 'Sundance' was recorded in 1969 under the guidance of producer Sonny Lester, who had also produced Corea's classic, 'Now He Sings, Now He Sobs' two years earlier. The album features a glittering array of jazz musicians: Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland (both of whom were Miles Davis sidemen at the time of these recordings), Woody Shaw, Hubert Laws and Horace Arnold. Together they come up with an intimate, spontaneous and highly evocative sound. |
