'Yankees' is a collection of five highly regarded and a totally unique collective improvisations on various themes of sport and culture by three leading figures from the avant garde jazz scenes in England and America. Described as 'played as heard' on the original sleeve, 'Yankees' is a collection of five highly regarded and a totally unique collective improvisations on various themes of sport and culture by three leading figures from the avant garde jazz scenes in England and America. Recorded in New York in 1982, the album was released on the cutting edge Celluloid label. On it British born Derek Bailey plays acoustic and electric guitars, George Lewis features on trombone, whilst John Zorn plays alto and soprano saxophones, clarinet and game calls. Whilst this music encourages and rewards the attentive listener, it is nevertheless still approachable to the casual listener and is inventive and full of tongue-in-cheek musical humour. Since recording this album both the reputations and the influence of each of these three highly talented musicians has continued to grow. Tracklisting
