Frank Sinatra's death at the close of the 20th Century marked the end of an extraordinary recording and performing career which spanned sixty years. During those years, he established himself as arguably the world's finest singer of popular songs, both in terms of technique and in commercial success.

By 1946 Sinatra had established himself as the biggest pop idol of his generation. This collection of 25 swing and ballad highlights from his Columbia recordings made in that year capture Sinatra at his accomplished best, superbly accompanied by Axel Stordahl's impeccable arrangements.
