McKay's best work was scattered over obscure 45's and it is for this reason that Charly has put together this collection of singles originally released on Alvin Ranglin's G.G. Records.

The late Freddy McKay never achieved the degree of consistent success his talent so obviously deserved.

Whilst comparable in class to such contemporaries of his as Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs and Dennis Brown, he never matched their commercial status and never recorded an entire album that did his considerable talent justice.

McKay's best work was scattered over obscure 45's and it is for this reason that Charly has put together this collection of singles originally released on Alvin Ranglin's G.G. Records.

Produced by Alvin Ranglin himself and supported by the formidable Revolutionaries (Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare et al), this collection of singles shares common themes of movement and travel.

In songs such as 'Rome', 'When The Right Time Comes', 'Blow Wind', 'Sweet You, Sour You' and 'Some A Dem Run Away', the theme of flight features prominently in the lyrics.

These songs serve as a vehicle for McKay to deliver the message of Rastafari and narrate his tales of oppression. Highlights here include Ranglin's re-working of the haunting 'Picture On The Wall' and the seductive 'Sweet You, Sour You', both of which were major Jamaican hits for McKay when he was signed to Coxsone Dodd's famous Studio One label.
