Gil's distinctive and eclectic sound is influenced not only by the music of his native Brazil but also by reggae, pop, Caribbean and rock. On this 1987 album, originally released on the Brazilian label, Gilberto Gil adds contemporary funk and reggae rhythms to several of his finest songs. The addition of brass and electric instruments makes for a melodic and highly danceable album which also has its lyrical moments.
