30 TRACK COMPILATION FEATURING THE BEST OF GLADYS KNIGHT 1960 -1964. Gladys Knight is one of the great soul singers with a unique bluesy, compelling vocal style. A winner of numerous Grammy Awards and with over seventy chart hits to her name over four decades, she was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame in 1996. One of soul music's most enduring and precocious talents, Gladys Knight has remained active on the music scene for over fifty years. A true child prodigy - she began singing to gospel audiences at the age of four and formed her first vocal group in 1952 at the age of eight - she was only sixteen when she hit the big time in 1961 with her first record, the doo-wop influenced 'Every Beat Of My Heart' which made #6 in the U.S. pop charts as well as topping the R&B charts. Between 1960 and 1964 she recorded first for New York-based Fury Records and then for another independent label, Maxx Records, where she worked under famed producer Van McCoy. These fine soul sides have tended to be overlooked in favour of her later more pop-orientated waxings for Motown and Buddah. 'Beats Of My Heart' is a definitive and generous 30-track compilation of highlights from her years with Fury and Maxx. As well as 'Every Beat Of My Heart', it includes her other hits, 'Operator', 'Giving Up' and 'Lovers Always Forgive', along with a wealth of other gems from the golden era of soul music. Tracklisting
