25 TRACKS FROM SOUTHERN SOUL STAR

A leading purveyor of the Southern & Country Soul style, Joe Tex produced consistently fine records throughout the Sixties, right up to the time of his early death from a heart attack in 1982.

During this period Joe Tex notched up over thirty hits in the US alone, making him one of the most successful R&B/Soul singers of all time.

Perhaps the most rustic of the soul stars, his distinctive ‘preacher’ singing style, often humorous, is recognised as being an important precursor to modern day rap and hip hop.

He was also one of the first to embrace and popularise funk music with hits like 1967’s Skinny Legs And All and even went on to score a major hit in the disco era with his irrepressible Ain’t Gonna Bump No More

This collection includes all of Joe Tex's major hits from 1965 to 1977, which were recorded in the main at Muscle Shoals and released on Buddy Killen’s Dial label.
